Prism Worldwide (PWW) is pleased to announce the opening of a brand new, state of the art production facility in Reno, Nevada. The 70,000 SF plant will manufacture Prism Thermoplastic Rubber (PTRTM) as well as WavebondTM HaloTM Repair Units and Tunnels. PWW expects to use the equivalent of ~1.2 million passenger tires per year of crumb rubber as production ramps up to 40 tons of PTR per day during the next 12 months. Joshua Coe, VP of Manufacturing indicated “when the facility is up to full production capacity, we will employ 40-50 persons. We are excited to have chosen Reno for our first manufacturing location.”
Prism’s patented PTR product converts crumb rubber from End of Life Tires into a reusable, crosslinkable thermoplastic rubber that can be used in products ranging from tires, to industrial materials, to asphalt for roadway and roofing materials. PTR provides a wide range of benefits to these many applications by incorporating the polymers, carbon black and other essential components in tires into a thermoplastic rubber ready to be reused as a base stock material in production.
Wavebond Halo and Tunnel units use patented technology to heat the binder in hot mix asphalt pavements and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) materials. Once heated the binder is able to flow around and off the aggregate and be mixed with PTR thereby creating a stronger, more durable binder to be reused in patches, as a cold mix, or as an additive to hot mix. More durable binders equal more durable pavements and smoother longer lasting roads for the public.
